What Can 10 Do?

E X P L A N A T I O N

Here is what we're asking.

We're asking you to invest in our community
by helping us serve children of abuse and neglect from the Sioux Empire.
And we're trying to make it simple by breaking it down into the 4 easy steps:

DONATE $10

Here's the deal, we're asking you to donate $10 (or more if you're feeling generous) $10 isn't a whole lot to ask. In fact, 2 less Grande Lattés and you're there.

FIND FRIENDS

We've all got some friends and coworkers. Find 10 and get them to give $10. If you crunch the numbers, that's $110! Can you imagine what would happen if they found 10 friends to do the same...

FEEL GOOD

Do this...extend your right arm above your head. Bend at the elbow and touch your back. Repeat as many times as needed. That's right give yourself a pat on the back for helping make our community better by investing in it.

Why this is important.

Other than the obvious idea that it's a good thing to do,
here are some reasons why children of abuse and neglect need our help.

  • EVERY 10 SECONDS

A report of child abuse is made every ten seconds. Think about that. By this time tomorrow there will be 8,640 new cases of child abuse reported.

  • NOT JUST PHYSICAL

1 in 10 children suffer from child maltreatment. 1 in 16 children suffer from sexual abuse. And nearly 1 in 10 children are witnesses to family violence.

  • FIVE EVERY DAY

In 2014, state agencies identified an estimated 1,580 children who died as a result of abuse and neglect — between four and five children a day. Studies indicate undercounting of these fatalities by state agencies — by 50% or more

  • 10 STADIUMS

In 2014, state agencies found an estimated 702,000 victims of child maltreatment, but that only tells part of the story. This would pack 10 modern football stadiums.

  • COMMUNITY COST

It's estimated to cost U.S. communities $124 billion to provide healthcare to children of abuse. As well as the costs for child welfare and protection, law enforcement, and the court systems to handle the juvenile and adult criminal cases.

  • HOMELESSNESS

In a U.S. Department of Health and Human Services study of homeless youth, it found that 46% of those surveyed had escaped a home where they suffered physical abuse, and 17% left because of sexual abuse.

A little about who we are.

We believe that a week of camp can make a difference in the life of a child.

Royal Family KIDS Camps are week-long overnight summer camps designed for children ages 6-12 in the local foster care system.

These children are documented cases of abuse, neglect or abandonment. Due to their backgrounds of trauma, medications or behaviors, traditional summer camps are not set up for the unique needs of kids in foster care.

The goal of Royal Family Kids Camps is to give these often lost and forgotten kids, a safe, fun, caring environment where they can flourish. Where they can feel normal and begin to belive, dream and find new hope for their futures. This is accomplished with a 100% volunteer staff creating a more than 1:1 ratio of adults and children.

The children benefit from personal attention and all structured activities designed for their success. A highlight of the week at Camp is "Everybody's Birthday Party". It is surprising how many Foster Children have never celebrated their birthday but at Camp EVERY child has a party complete with games, cake and ice cream and presents.

Royal Family Kids Camps are provided at no cost to the Foster Parents or the State of South Dakota. We raise all our own funds to meet our $75,000 yearly budget.

We are passionate about Royal Family Kids Camps and how they can benefit a child who needs to feel hopeful and loved. We believe that we change our Community when we change the life of a child.
